This push back on 20mph from some is crazy, especially when speed is responsible for 50% of all road fatalities. When broken down, you find this: 40mph - 31% of people are killed 30mph - 7% of people are killed 20mph - 1% of people are killed And when we age our bodies become more fragile and less able to resist impact. In the over 60's speed accounts for a far higher proportion of deaths: 40mph - 98% of over 60's are killed 30mph - 50% of over 60's are killed 20mph - 5% of over 60's are killed Source: Road Safety Foundation |
