I have been made aware of Bolt bikes introducing a tariff where riders can opt-in for a distance based tariff rather than a time based one. Bolt believes - and I think they are right - that this will makes rides safer as riders will not be racing against the clock to get from A to B. As an example, Lime charge riders on a pay-as-you-go basis £1.29 for the first minute and then 29p per minute thereafter. They also do plans where you can save between 62% to 73% on the cost of a PAYG ride. But as you can tell the quicker you get to where you need to be the cheaper the ride becomes. Yet even this bit of inspired thinking from Bolt will not stop riders riding on the pavement, in exactly the same way that regulations prohibiting parking on a yellow line/double yellow line/pavement parking do not prevent a driver from doing any one or more of those things. |
