The answer that I was looking for was the difference a 20mph road makes to road safety. TfL recently commissioned research which shows even more compelling data on collision and casualty reductions, along with no evidence found that 20mph limits increased congestion. TfL analysed more than 150 20mph schemes. Quoting from the report there were 35% fewer collisions and 36% fewer casualties on borough roads where 20mph zones had been introduced. In particular, children were even less likely to be hurt - with a 50% reduction in casualties and 75% reduction in fatalities. Overall, the report also showed that there was a 40 per cent reduction in the number of people killed. https://tfl-newsroom.prgloo.com/news/powerful-new-long-term-tfl-research-shows-20mph-speed-limits-save-lives-on-londons-roads |
