| It’s not a tax, but it is a deterrent for passing trade. Even the planners of the government’s proposed new towns aren’t stupid enough to ban short stay free parking, recognising the boost this brings to local economies. The main aim is to further monetise the kerb space, hence the switch of over half the existing bays to shared use or commuter parking. It’s nothing to do with helping small businesses and everything to do with increasing revenues for the council. |
