I sent emails to some councillors suggesting that isolating those who could not easily access the telephone parking system would be to the detriment of their health. Extending CPZ hours from one am and one pm to 12 hours would isolate some completely. Conservative and Lib Dem councillors replied. A key Labour councillor said he had dealt with a constituent who wanted a scatch card parking voucher for his visitors. I asked him about the other 3,200 who may have problems. No reply. The extended hours CPZ "consultation" was hurried through before Christmas without any discussion at the "formative stage" (a legal term) between councillors/officers/residents. Strangely it coincided with the Town Team initiative where citizens were to be at the centre of decision making. I imagine that officers and councillors working at home are unable to speak to each other. Hence the conflict. And certainly not able to speak to us. I am sure this explains the 20 minute neighbourhood initiative hatched in vacuo and along with the LTN idea out of touch with some citizens' requirements and freedoms. Oh dear! |
