| You are getting confused. Thatcher did seek to abolish some of the Metropolitan Councils as they had a tendency to be Labour controlled. It wasn't the start of a programme of abolishing all councils. You may feel local democracy isn't working for you as it hasn't delivered the result you want but the chances are you'd be much less well off without it. A reminder at this point that the LTNs are a government policy being implemented by Ealing. The existence of a local authority does at least give residents a chance to express their discontent about this policy at the ballot box. If central government had control of these issues such a protest would be impossible. |
