| I don’t recall abolition being an idea. She did get rid of the GLC. There might be a case for abolishing the current London government system because it’s not really working. Some of the boroughs are getting too big now to be effectively managed under one council, Ealing being a case in point. The granting of planning permission for a monster development of tower blocks alongside the tube line on Bollo Lane highlighted this. One of the planning committee, a councillor for Northolt I believe, admitted he didn’t know the area, knew nothing of the issues at stake, but voted for it anyway. That’s not a good precedent for anyone. |
