| To being with George and statistics. The fact is… you can prove anything you like with statistics. If George wants to fixate on a single figure that’s fine but completely unhelpful. Over a decade of simplistic target setting by this Government shows that focus on apparently simple figures distorts priorities. The reason I went on about fraud is because there had been such a big recorded increase. And I did indicate that the police were going to step up their activities around car crime to deal with increased theft. And the cheapest ploy, George, is to just accuse other of using cheap ploys. Arthur Breens won’t believe that I understand my portfolio as he long ago decided he knew better than any of the councillors what they should be doing. Not understanding who uses the police facilities to which he refers, or their public accessibility, might cause most people to think before pontificating but Arthur is made of more splenetic stuff. The number and locations of police stations/offices/shops is important but only a means to an end: preventing crime and catching criminals. Ward boundaries are not relevant to most people’s lives, (I can step outside my house and be in another ward in less than two minutes) so fixating on ward based facilities doesn’t really take things forward. An intelligent debate on crime and the role of the police and councils would be great, but this thread (for the most part) isn’t it. |
