It's a great pity you have swallowed hook, line and sinker Ealing's findings from their phoney-baloney consultation. Far more people than their pitiful sample signed the petition (both online and paper in the clubhouse) in favour of keeping the course open. Early on after LBE announced the closure of the course, one of the councillors behind all this claimed that 600 rounds of golf were played at the course per month. Apparently she rocked up at the club one day and looked at how many had booked a round so far that day and extrapolated from that. Great research. A FoI request by the club discovered that the annual number of rounds for 2022 was over 30K. That's more that four times the LBE number plucked from the air. And that's just golfers: it doesn't include dog-walkers, ramblers etc who also use the course. Unfortunately, the nonsense spouted by LBE gets taken at face value by naive golf haters on this forum but worse, also by the media, e.g. IanVisits and others. Sadly, 'A lie is halfway round the world before the truth has got its boots on.' LBE knows this only too well. |
