No. Perivale was only vulnerable owing to the council's doctrinaire determination to push through its save the planet vanity project. The club demonstrated time and again these past months that the course was popular (loved even) and much-used with literally thousands from Ealing and beyond coming out in support. The opposite to what you assert, the council heavily understated the number of people playing golf, at Perivale in any case. Ludicrously so. Secondly. Having played over a thousand rounds at PPGC the past 25 years as member (and Captain 2014), I know the club members, general course users and staff rather well. I can assure you that very few indeed - probably single figures - could afford to join Ealing Golf Club across the road. Indeed any private course in the vicinity. The closure of PPGC will mean the end of golf for many of them. |
