Polo could be subsidised, of course. But there aren’t many polo fields and clubs locally as far as I’m aware. Whatever one's view of golf, it is more widely played and also more popular than polo. To assume that all those playing at Perivale are well heeled is presumptuous. Also, why do you think the council overestimated the number of players? The point you seem determined to miss every time is that making sports facilities affordable and easily accessible will encourage participation. It wasn’t beyond the ability of the council to actively promote the Perivale course to attract new players from a more diverse background. It seems to be able to do so with cycling. What’s really at play here is the easy targetting of the golf course to help with the council’s greenwashing agenda. A new ‘regional park’ (which isn’t much different to what already exists there) as a fig leaf to cover its desperate desire to build all over Metropolitan Open Land elsewhere. |
