Of course it’s political. Any decision by a politician is inherently political. And Ealing has weaponised ‘climate change’ with disastrous results. They’ve finally woken up and realised that you get nowhere unless you take people with you. Hence the demise of the LTNs. And they made a political decision not to put them in areas where their support is strongest, even though those areas have far bigger pollution problems. A suggestion that councils need to act is contentious. Put their own houses in order first. Less unsustainable overdevelopment for a start. We’re told London faces water stress due to demand outstripping supply, yet they shovel more and more people in. TfL has a 9,000 strong bus fleet. Only 500 are low emission. Most run on diesel. The fleet won’t be carbon neutral until 2034. What have they been doing in recent years? But the bottom line is economics. Most people don’t have the luxury of changing their lifestyles overnight. Many are just getting by. Change people’s financial circumstances for the better and you might see change. |
