Luckily it’s only four years... ....but that’s all true. There’s a massive problem cropping up now with Ealing’s failure to produce Authority Monitoring Reports or an up to date local plan. The AMRs are supposed to be produced annually to monitor development under the previous Local Development Plan. They have a statutory duty to produce these but have not done so for SIX years! The local government ombudsman has reprimanded the council and given it three months to produce them. Somebody gets paid to do this job, but it speaks volumes for the laxity of the council that nothing has been done for so long. All this means that developers are now claiming costs against the council (ie our money) in appeals against planning decisions. It also has serious ramifications for future planning committee decisions. Don’t forget that we are constantly told about cuts and lack of money, yet this is sheer negligence that has already cost the council money, and potentially a lot more. |
