| Colm HB reductions, social housing rents to rise above inflation, families being separated, Legal aid being reduced, Charities having their funding cut, house building coming to a juddering halt, VAT up with retailers using that as an excuse to put a little bit more on, no reduction of the cost of petrol rises, fares up above inflation, utilities up above inflation and several hundred thousand people to lose their jobs, pay freezes for millions, University fees tripled, pensioners personal allowances not going up, Welfare benefits rising with CPI ,instead of RPI, and the same for many pensions, threats of employment rights being eroded, bank charges going through the roof, police numbers going down, prisons being shut down, NHS services being hit, etc etc. The people who vote, generally older people, have the memories which are still fresh of how Thatcher smashed up communities. Do you really want all of that again? And we haven’t got to the action days of March yet. The Unions are not going to have Old Etonians telling them how to run this country. You can understand why some or many of them hate many values your party stands for. And before you ask, Darling’s approach was to take the cuts at a more measured pace. But I agree Councillor Bell should beware. |
