| WRONG! Section 2 of the Straßenverkehrsordnung (qv) is clear that unless otherwise signed use of cycling infrastrucrure is mandated. Having worked in a number of German cities yes there are some very good quality segregated cycle lanes but, from observation, the majority are little more than painted lines which cross multiple junctions and, in many city centres, tram and light rail tracks. In and around, as example Dresden and Leipzig however cycle path are routed in public parks or along riverbanks to isolate cyclists from the traffic you then rejoin 'mainstream' traffic on ordinary non-segregated roads. |
