Are there actually any cycle lanes on red routes locally? I can think of any. Where they do exist this is likely to come as a shock to motorists when the fines start to be issued. I would have no sympathy with anyone who was blocking a cycle lane or causing a hazard but, like bus lane fines, I suspect many will be minor breaches when a driver strays unwittingly into a lane for a short time. What will get interesting is if Ealing Council adopts this power — although with many cycle lanes now segregated with wands on main roads, the potential for increased revenues is reduced. |
