The problem remains that not all women attending the Marie Stopes Clinic are there through their own choice. A significant number are subject to pressure from their family, their partner (who may also be abusive) or just force of circumstance to go through with an abortion. The Care Quality Commission has criticised the way staff were incentivised to increase the number of abortions they carry out and it was found they made follow up calls to women who hadn't gone through with their abortion to see if they would change their mind. Ultimately this centre's finances and the earnings of the staff are dependent on maximising the number of procedures they do. No evidence of actual harassment by the people attending the vigil was in the report presented to the Council. If your belief is that going up to someone and offering them a leaflet constitutes harassment how would you respond to the women who testified that they took the leaflet and, as a result believe it enabled them to avoid making the biggest mistake of their life? |
