| The is a view of Germany and German people formed by sixties war comics rather than any real knowledge of the country or even direct experience of Germany or German people. The idea of punishing aggressors for the costs of wars that they caused was tried after the WWI and most people who read books will know what the outcome was. After the second world war a different approach was tried and we have seen a half century of no major conflict in Europe. German is not such a strong industrial power because it pulled a fast one after the war. It owes its manufacturing pre-eminence to a culture which values technical skills to the same extent that we value the humanities. Sadly, ill-informed conspiracy theories like this one seem to be the reason many people believe we should leave the EU. |
