Both Virendra Sharma and Rupa Huq will shortly be subject to 'trigger ballots' in which all local associations and affliated union branches will have the option to call for a reselection contest. For this to happen, a third of branches have to call for a vote. The sitting MP is automatically part of the contest and, if Rupa Huq is challenged, it would be by an all women candidate list. It is highly unlikely that a challenge would be launched to Rupa Huq, a female BAME MP. Virendra Sharma on the other hand looks much less secure. |
