Having read all of the posts on here, and being a pragmatic type...could some please post usage data on libraries? It is not possible to form an objective opinion without knowing how many enter a library and for what purpose. The arguments on here suggest it’s a valuable asset for unemployed people to access a computer. That is indeed a valid service, However, overall consumption or printed books is lower today. We could provide access to computers in many different ways to those who need it. Just an example. The smarter debate is not how library closures = some form of conspiracy but: - what do people need - what’s the most effective and cost efficient way to provide it I am not a fan of Bell or his party but would like some data please. |
