How interesting. I’m not an accountant and I know there’s always some way of ‘explaining’ why certain monies can’t be used for certain things but clearly there is a reserve there that could be put towards the libraries. That is, if the political will was there, which it’s not. I suspect there’ll be an increase year on year and then a council tax freeze just before the 2022 elections! I know surplus raised from parking has to be spent on transport related matters (in Ealing’s case miles of cycle lanes rather than repairing the disgraceful roads and pavements). However, there is clearly money flowing in from elsewhere. We are stuck with an undemocratic, uncaring and utterly self-interested Council. There’s a constant boast about making Ealing a better place to live, yet as Wednesday’s meeting about Southall Riverside showed, that’s yet another lie peddled by Cllr Bell and his cronies. The library policy is just another manifestation of that. |
