I'm not sure those buying expensive flats in those towers are either going to live in them/engage much in the community anyway. If the argument went that we have to sell what we can to developers to protect libraries, community centres, etc. then I could understand it. But they're happy to choose the former and not the latter. I don't mind a bit of punitive measures against motorists (as someone with a car) - Ealing's roads are terribly congested. A Labour run Ealing is like how Labour run Haringey was; Labour in name only, run by those who still idolise Blair and New Labour and see the markets as providing all the solutions to all problems. Local government is a farce. Councillors are elected on small mandates because voters vote for parties, not them as people. There's hardly any accountability, so you can pretty much do what you like. |
