| Too many drivers think that cyclists should be riding in the gutter rather confidently taking their place in the centre of their side of the road or that they should be riding in a cycle lane at the edge of the road where there are often parked cars. Drivers haven't learnt the Dutch Reach here and open their doors onto passing cyclists - another reason for cyclists not wanting to ride in the gutter/cycle lane. Drivers are very impatient to overtake all the time and seem to think that they should do so wherever they are with little thought for space speed and safety. Cyclists do not have to ride in a cycle lane. They can also ride two abreast. I think it is drivers who need to relook at the Highway Code and adjust their behaviour. |
