| Phillippa I rode to school by bike. My father rode to school by bike. I had to pass the Cycling Proficiency Test before being allowed to Cycle to school. You are not supposed to ride unaccompanied on a public highway under the age of 11. There was ( and still is supposed to be) a requirement for all bikes for public road use to have a working front and rear brake, working lights, mudguards, a rear reflector and preferably also a front reflector and road tread tyres A few teachers with RoSPA credentials inspected each bike at the beginning of each term and spot checked at any time. None of this is even seen as relevant today. |
