I can't believe you think that Waitrose bread is less dry than Parkers. We find Waitrose bread (the standard loaves, not things like baguettes etc.) so very dry that we will only buy it as a very last resort compared to Parkers (and we live so close to Waitrose that when they rebuilt the store a few years ago the entrance to it moved four times further away than it was originally!) We also like bread from the Farmer's Market - expensive, but if you want your bread to actually *taste* of something. Because of the taste and the texture we find that we end up using about half of the amount of bread we typically would for a sandwich - so costwise it about evens out in the end. Plus the bread lasts so much better as well. Or Cudi's - a little sweet, but very very moist (if you shop late enough in the day to get "today's" output - they seem to have a schedule which sees today's bread hitting the shelves around 11:00. Prior to that time it would appear it is actually yesterday's bread on the shelf.) |
