Anyone who commutes regularly any meaningful distance on the Central line knows that you should carry water with you. I haven't been using the line since the eighties but, for as long as I can remember, I've taken water with me when it is this hot. TfL has probably issued these warnings for tourists who you regularly seen collapsing in the current heat.

On the other hand, I think it is wrong to be preachy about people running their engines in this heat to keep the aircon going. I was waiting for someone in the car earlier this week and tried hard not to put it on - I lasted about two minutes by which time I was dripping with sweat. Dehydration can affect concentration so you need to be sensible.
