| Amazing that some contributors here must have had some education but really don’t comprehend a basic grasp of facts. Must be all that cycling affects brain capacity. Put simply, a lot of spending on transport infrastructure comes from the revenue surplus from parking services, including the CPZs. The surplus for 2022-23 in Ealing was £19.2 million. It is likely to be more for subsequent years because of hiked permit charges. A proportion of the surplus funds concessionary fares, but around half is spent on other transport infrastructure, particularly bike lanes. It is rungfebced for transport only so can’t go towards festivals or council services like children’s cebtres ;a large number of which the council proposes to close(. It could be used to improve pavements and roads, but isn’t. It could be used to fund a feasibility study into making Northfields station accessible, but isn’t. It could be used to reduce the permit charges for residents, but isn’t. That would be a nice gesture for families who a currently struggling with cost of living, but then it’s not sexy enough for the current gang of shysters in Perceval House. What is amusing is how the James’s and Klimowskis of this works view everything through their tiny prism of smug, middle-class entitlement. Everything is about them and what they think they see and what they believe, even if the facts - inevitably - don’t support anything they contend. One wonders how much hectoring they do away from these forums. Bet there’s no rule in place for visitors to only arrive by bike! |
