In an ideal world, I would like to see the Leaf being built to its original height incorporating good residential accommodation and a rooftop restaurant of a 'Noughts & Crosses" standard with a small stage and dancefloor. I would like ground and first floors to include amenities, including a local niche co-op type store cum cafe with gentle live music(jazz, blues, piano, C & W etc.) all day; and perhaps have occasional free performances from young local talent to give them a showcase opportunity. The store to sell local food such as the W13 high quality honey and jams and jellies sold at the St James Fair, an idea that could be further expanded if the cafe were to sell imaginative home baked goods and food made with seasonal produce from local allotments and hedgerows. I would also like to see art, greeting cards and postcards of Ealing by local photographers and artists, and books and literature about the area, to include walks with details of local flora and fauna and buildings of interest. The scope is wide and given that most high streets are full of cloned businesses, this could be a way of getting local support. Elderflower and rosehip cordial or sloe gin, anyone? |
