| I beg to differ, Mr Leach. There were many who supported the innovative modern architecture which would have brought a boost to the area. They just don't have the time or the inclination to be involved fighting the regular busybody activists who spend their ample time on different soapboxes trying to set the world in aspic. We hoped our local politicians would have the courage to do their jobs adequately and not be frightened off by the naysayers. The right decision was made initially, but the planners sadly caved in to the loudmouths. The site will lie fallow for years as a result and no other developer will want to touch it, and Ealing will be the poorer. As for Glenkerrin going belly up, this may be because they were left saddled with an unsaleable white elephant in Ealing due to the interference of the economically challenged and their inability to see a good deal when it was on offer. If the scheme had gone ahead it would have attracted enough revenue to complete the job and everyone would be in profit, culturally and financially. Ealing 'coulda been a contender'! |
