"They (foxes) do not belong in urban areas and should be discouraged." Ealing, even central Ealing, is not 100% urban. Yes,there are a lot of buildings but there is an enormous amount of parkland, woodland, river(the mighty Brent) sides, canal sides, derelict land returning to nature. Add to that back gardens, rearrange the lot and Ealing would be a built- up nucleus separated from neighbouring towns by a very wide strip of countryside. The logical course of action would be to convert all grass areas, sports fields, golf courses, and the like, to porous hard surfaces, also front gardens. Back gardens to be fully paved. The River Brent to be put in a tube (there's a proper word for this), similarly canals. In essence - no visible earth. Flowers only to be grown in planters and trees surrounded by porous resin as the treatment for woodland floors. All buildings and sheds to be sealed to ground level by mesh as a minimum. These policies would ensure foxes couldn't live in Ealing but it wouldn't stop them coming to forage. BTW there was a dead young fox in the gutter at the eastbound 297/E10 Castlebar Hill bus stop this morning (Wednesday) |
