The council applied to have the lodge listed by Historic England but that was rejected. There’s now a local listing process being pursued which will afford a certain degree of protection. For some reason those councillors responsible had no inkling that local listing was an option, but then the council hasn’t reviewed its local list since 2012. Then you wonder why older buildings get bulldozed. There is at least now a conservation officer at the council, after that post was conveniently discarded while the Town Hall offloading was going through. So there might now be some scrutiny at Perceval House, though don’t hold your breath. |
