| At the Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting on December 23rd 2010, residents concerns about the proposed cuts resulted in the matter being referred back to cabinet. There is another Council Cabinet meeting at the town hall on January 25th 2011 at 7 pm. This meeting provides members of the public with an additional opportunity to talk with Council members (in this case members of the Labour group running the Council) about the proposals to cut ranger posts. Anyone can attend this cabinet meeting on January 25th and speak on behalf of the Rangers and Ealing's parks. The Council is proposing to replace the enforcement aspect of the Ranger job, with another ervice taking over this role. Why? The Rangers are already best placed to do this role, and have successfully resolved a large number of incidents throughout the borough in the last 13 years of the Ranger service's existence. Reducing frontline staff will undoubtedly have an adverse impact in Ealing's parks and open spaces. I would also urge anyone who loves Ealing's parks to write to the Ealing Gazette, your councillors and your MP outlining your concerns about the proposed cutbacks to the Ranger service. There will shortly be a new petition announced. Meanwhile if you subscribe to Facebook there is a group called 'Save Ealing's Parks and Park Rangers'. |
