Everyone knows I'm a Tory so you can take my comments how you like but...... I have a picture of my husband with a Labour friend of his and John Prescott. Can we help it if our friends are misguided. He invited both Prescott and my husband to the opening of his new offices. I suppose that picture could be used against me - "hubby of prominent Tory (I would be prominent or something like that for these purposes) supports Labour Heirarchy" which would be untrue. The fact is Tony Lit did not donate to the Labour Party, the company of which he was Chief Exec did. It isn't unknown for businesses to donate to all political parties. Tony Lit on becoming a Tory candidate stood down from the radio station. He has always said he is his own man. Tony Blair - whatever you may think of him - was Prime Minister of this country. I would have a picture taken with him especially if I knew he was standing down but then the joke would be on him because I am a known active Tory! The press comments then would be something like "Tony Blair wooed by Tories - is he changing sides?" But then again it would only be of interest if there was a particularly hard fought by-election on. If Tony Blair came into a room where I was seated, I would stand up as a mark of respect for the culture and democracy of this country which he headed. What all this says to me is that the Tories are in with a chance in Southall and therefore every tactic is being used to discredit Tony Lit. I wouldn't read too much into this story, it was engineered to emabarrass Tony for political purposes and nothing else. |
