Re cinemas. On the whole I prefer the west end cinemas to local multiplexes. Behaviour of the audiences is usually much better. Behaviour in the old Ealing Cinema was appaling and I stopped ever going there although I love cinemas. The Waterman is fine although in need of sprucing up. Digital projection has improved the screen image. Pity they don't bring back a decent cafe bar instead of the usually empty Indian restaurant. Would be nice to see some decent dramas in their underused theatre as well. Shame they have got rid of their cheaper tickets for afternoon performance. The Curzon (formerly the Filmhouse)in Richmond is a very good cinema especially if you have a freedom pass to get there on the 65 bus !. During a recent stay in Leicester I visited the brand new Phoenix centre which has two first class state of the art screens and admissions starting at £4 ( now £5) This as I understand was not financed by any cinema chain but by grants from various public and private bodies. I hope a new cinema is built in the Centre of Ealing (which is no where near as bad as some comments on this forum suggest) but on a smaller scale than originally planned and showing a wide range of films not just the pop corn block busters. |
