Watermans survived because it chased grants, these have indeed been cut and some of the grant giving organisations they applied to are no longer functioning. Thanks for the figures James, I am a bit cynical and would suggest that the UK Film Council have an interest to present good figures? Lets also not forget that the whole point of cinema is to create an illusion of fantasy? A young friend of mine works in a bar and gets free cinema tickets in return for drinks at mates rates. He tells me that often its just him and a few of his mates in the cinema and its never packed. When asked would he go if he paid for his tickets? No is the answer. We've already discussed the pros and cons of cinema going but if there was any money to be made from this site, you can be sure someone would be completing the build. It is a disgrace that this has happened, but I'm not surprised. Anyway, is there any news or progress from the council? |
