Cinemas are a bit like petrol stations, cinema audiences are at an all-time high, as a car numbers, but there are fewer cinemas and petrol stations. Even now there still might be over-capacity in the cinemas. perhaps my children, both youngish adults, may supply a clue: they prefer the big screen West End cinemas both for the visual impact and sound quality, experiences not found in Ealing cinemas, Lido, Odeon, Walpole, Palladium, ABC, any more? Perhaps that dreadful façade could be kept and the back part made into a warehouse type structure and the BFI* enticed to re-open MOMI** in it. * British Film Institute ** Museum of the Moving Image |
