Re is there some loophole which makes it lucartive for them to have an empty property? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx not as far as I am aware and someone has to pay the local business rates presumably even if the property is empty, so hopefully greedy landlords get clobbered that way, but looking at matters from the social aspect, I think the local authorities should impose a gradually increasing tax after a certain period of unoccupancy. There was the classic case years ago of Centre Point which was allowed to stay unoccupied for years. It is very depressing for the public to witness boarded up business premises, some look bad enough as it is even when open. There is no reason why a reduced rent could not be agreed with a prospective tenant increasing in line with economic activity locally. If there is very little, then the place ain't worth much anyway. |
