| I never said that they were a beacon of environmental aspiration just that you were only looking at their use of coal and not at their manufacture and use of renewables. They are a huge nation where a lot of questions need asking about the way they run their country and treat their people. I already don't buy from Amazon because of their behaviour but how are you going to persuade a consumerist population here who are addicted to and in awe of and fall to the floor in praise of "Cheap". When whatever it is breaks or they lose it and they say "it doesn't matter because it was only cheap" will you be telling them about how long ago it is since we banned child labour here (even if it does still happen here in places) which they should have learnt at school and telling them about human rights and about the Uighurs and other oppressed peoples? Will you be calling for climate justice for those people in the world who have very little and whose homes are threatened by rising sea levels and increased storms which breach their sea defences and contaminate their drinking water and make growing crops impossible? Should they be suffering because the most and abject and extreme consumerists in the US and the UK have such a mindless addiction to cheap stuff? |
