Free electricity? What do you think. My understanding is that the Council lease the charging points sites to the providers, who then pass on the cost to the consumer. Given the current high price of electricity don't think it's going to be cheap. Also, assuming you pay the '£500' - which is a speculative figure so could be higher - do you then get exclusive use of the charging point? That would effectively mean you get a guaranteed parking space outside your home, which is not the point of CPZs. My guess is that the charging point would be able to be used by anyone with an electric vehicle, so it would not be beyond the realms of possibility that you might not be able to access it when you need it. How annoying would that be if you'd forked out a fat fee. I've asked local councillors for clarification on this, but I suspect there will be a deathly silence. The Council is just making this up as it goes along - the whole CPZ repricing scheme is simply a revenue raising exercise. It's nothing to do with environmental improvements. If the Council was really serious about cracking down on car use in the borough it would introduce a congestion zone to deter people from driving, not just in the CPZ areas but in places like Perivale and Greenford where there's no restriction on car use. However, that would be a disaster for businesses and a guaranteed vote loser for our Labour visionaries. |
