I'm surprised recycling rates are so low. As it's judged by weight, 35% is not a lot. Most weeks, our black bag weighs less than a single bottle, and with the weight of glass and paper, our non-recycled waste is hardly ever more than 10% of the total. Most of the others on the street seem to put out a fair bit of recycling too, so there must be a lot of people not doing any.
Incidentally, we recycle a fair bit of food waste via our local fox (loves chicken scraps, left over sausages, out of date eggs), birds, squirrel (all of which seem happy to help....), wormery and compost heap. |
