Yes the info is not there. I'd still avoid as much plastic as possible which is basically just trying to avoid packaging. I cringe on the occasions I've been to the local supermarket and come back with so much plastic packaging. It has got better in that there is less of the bulky stuff now but the argument between the supermarkets and councils has meant that the supermarkets are doing their own recycling signs on their plastics telling customers what is readily recyclable and what isn't. Some is made into pellets for energy from waste rather than being recycled. China who was getting a lot of our plastic has cut down/become stricter again on imports. Certainly before the Olympics they stopped taking any carrier bags back and closed down a large plastics factory. I suspect they were feeling rather conscious about the pollution all their industry causes with all the foreign visitors. Taking your own reusable bags and buying loose avoids a lot of this. This is really worthwhile with fresh fruit and vegetables as you can buy just what you want more often and enjoy them when they are at their freshest. |
