| There is no added benefit to cyclists in this design. They can cycle both ways, whilst negotiating parking and through traffic, just as before. The scheme is mostly a benefit to pedestrians (pavements extended/renewed and crossing tables added). So anyone who ever walks on this street or supports the farmers market stand to benefit and we are all pedestrians at some point (even if for some that just involves moving to and from a vehicle). Not being able to drive northbound here is hardly a big hindrance when the Broadway can be accessed by motorists via Leeland Terrace, just moments away and without physical effort. When you look at the plans and compare space allocated for pedestrians versus drivers you'll see that car infrastructure still dominates this space . No special space has been dedicated to cyclists. |
