| While I admit that the main reason I cycle to work is to save money, there are also multiple other reasons, such as rehabilitation, punctuality, and health. Other people cycle because they cannot drive (eg. they are too young, or have disabilities). It’s sad to see that some people still see driving as some kind of status symbol. That popping out for a pint of milk in a car is aspirational, and distinguishes one from the impoverished ‘others’. The well-known quote, misattributed to Margaret Thatcher, that ‘A man who, beyond the age of 26, finds himself on a bus can count himself as a failure’ is usually evidence of entitlement and lack of empathy, although in some people it just shows obliviousness. Your attitude explains a lot, Nigel. Thank you for taking off your mask. At least now we know that the whole ‘War on Motorists’ thing is nothing more than a fear of slipping down the ‘social ladder’. |
