>Because they were being hacked. They were being ridden recklessly. They were being left in places that obstructed the pavements despite the dedicated parking bays. It’s a problem across London with some boroughs impounding bikes as a result. Oh come come now....do you not think the problem exists, is bigger, and has a far bigger impact for the disabled, buggies etc when motor vehicles are parked on pavements? There is even a FB page called 'Parked Like A Twat'. I wonder why! To make you aware, I was part of the Make Brentford Station Accessible Campaign - it was called something like that and was led by the great Sian Vasey (RIP). Through her efforts Brentford and EB Stations have now become accessible. Google Sian to see more on who she was; a staunch campaigner on disability rights. Campaigning for better transport is something very close to my heart, Simon, you should know that by now; in fact the charity Campaign for Better Transport wants to see walking, wheeling and cycling rates increased by: a) A requirement for all local authorities to review and improve facilities for walking, wheeling and cycling; b) More community programmes to inspire more people to take up cycling and remove barriers to doing so; c) Ensuring more bike capacity on trains and more storage facilities at train stations. You simply do not want to recognise anyone or any organisation who are on Team 'It's-Not-All-About-Cars'. |
