It’s a ridiculous project. The bottom end of the park is basically the bottom of the hill before it slopes upwards to the gate onto Northfield Avenue. As such it’s a natural place for water to pool, which it has done in the past. It certainly doesn’t flow up the slope into the main road and flood all the houses and businesses there. The scale of the excavations is shocking both in width and depth. They will be unsafe for all children who previously enjoyed activities in the park. There’s a football forlornly lying in the muddy puddle that currently constitutes the pond nearest the gate. What’s the policy from the council to enable balls and other play things to be retrieved from these deep holes when the work is finished? Similarly, when a dog off the leash dives into one of the pools and then can’t climb out. Are they to have park wardens on hand to help out? Unlikely. In all probability they will have to fence off the ponds, which isn’t anywhere on the propaganda posters. There’s been no risk assessment done. Shocking. |
