I will interpret Palimpsest as a poor and inferior copy, though it stems from the paper that was used to test the typesetting in the days of typesetting when a piece of paper was pressed in the press to align all the type in the form. In the early days of typesetting paper was expensive and scrap paper was used to check the page, the poor image that was disposed of was termed a palimpsest |
