Now everyone here knows as well as I do that there’s no real interest in maintaining roads properly in Ealing. Make them too good and more people might be tempted to drive on them. The real interest for Bell and co is their manic over-promotion of cycling and the allocation of far more public money to building infrastructure for a minority activity - no matter how healthy and beneficial it might be - rather than serving the needs of the majority of residents who own cars, most of whom have very valid reasons to do so. Of course, the Bell way is to let things slide downhill before jumping up and down, insisting that something must be done but somebody else must pay for it. Certainly Ealing’s record of street maintenance is not something Bell can boast about. And forgive my cynicism but surely the hundreds of thousands of lorry journeys generated by the enormous and ongoing building works in the borough have significantly added to damage to carriageways and pavements? And just who allows these developments through on the nod? Why, Mr Bell and his MIPIM mates!! |
