general public’s obsession with buildings and an unwillingness to focus on the services

The press and politicians are the people obsessed with our so called obsession. service is what we actually want. my girlfriend kathy who died in 2009 was treated at the brompton for many years which is an old building but the service was high class. would a resulting pfi improve the service. no it would not as money goes away from patients to bankers. the private examples i talk about are the various heavily subsidised private ventures under labour which got waiting lists down but often got paid for operations they did not do. i agree that something needs doing. however the solutions are in a sense more of the same. they nhs we knew and loved as such has not existed for 20 years or more. commercialisation of hospitals has been going years with a resulting increase in clipboard johnies. in a sense we need to strip back everything and see what a hospital actually needs in order to run efficiently and provide a service to patienst (not customers as labour/tory consulancy types want to call us) the current wisdom is to replace public with private. but inneficiency just becoms better rewarded. people from private industry do not bring their skills into the NHS. If they were any good they would be making money. a real revolution is what is needed in the service.
