Of immediate concern is the closure of police stations such as modest Norwood Green which would make a really good base for two SNT teams and is ideally placed to serve a large area south of the GWR railway line. (The Norwood Green team is now positioned under a railway arch quite a distance away for "economy" even though the police station owes nothing other than running costs and incidentally has holding cells). The next one hanging by a thread is Greenford with Ealing looking increasingly symbolic with over-concentration at Acton & Southall. I havn`t even mentioned re-opening Hanwell. Can Andy Rowling reverse this regressive trend? The other major issue which Jason Stacey raised in January 2009 and which the new leader of the council Julian Bell would be wise to follow is the allocation of police officers to the borough based on head of population which was estimated to be 68 to 72 officers under strength for our large borough. If Metropolitan Police numbers are set to fall Ealing should resist any reduction at least until other boroughs are on similar percentages to ours. Empathy for Ealing and stubbornness would be good qualities for a new Ealing Commander! |
