https://www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/news/2022/may/uks-flying-insects-have-declined-60-in-20-years.html Insects are an important part of the food chain including for us. They pollinate our food plants. We no longer see all those squashed insects on vehicle number plates and car windscreens thst we used to. The hotter weather we are experiencing creates sudden and greater rainfall which has to go somewhere to dissipate. As the climate changes insects will change just as the plants which we can grow and which will thrive will change. We need to stop poisoning our world as much as we can by the so often unnecessary and careless use of weedkillers and pesticides which wash into our waterways joining all the medications including those medications we take and those used on our pets. Just because it is sold doesn't mean it is OK - some takes years before the effects are isolated and proved despite suspicions. Our low tolerance levels seem to lead to an overuse of what seems initially (and is heavily advertised) as a quick and easy fix for a non-problem but has greater consequences. Ants are a part of the food chain too. |
